১. তারা সবসময় ছকের বাইরে চিন্তা করেন:---- আলবার্ট আইনস্টাইন বলেছেন, ‘জ্ঞানের চেয়ে কল্পনাশক্তি অনেক বেশি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ’। রীতিবিরুদ্ধ বিষয়গুলো সবসময়ই সফল ব্যক্তিদের তাড়া করে বেড়ায়। তারা নিয়মের বাইরে গিয়ে স্বপ্ন দেখতে ভালোবাসেন এবং নিজের চিন্তা-ভাবনা দিয়ে নতুন আইডিয়া বের করার চেষ্টা করেন। তাদের অনেকের কাছেই স্কুলকে জেলখানা ছাড়া আর কিছুই মনে হয় না। কেননা স্কুলের ধরাবাঁধা নিয়মের ভেতরে তাদের অনুভূতি ও চিন্তাগুলো ডানা মেলতে পারে না। অন্তর্নির্মিত ক্ষমতাসম্পন্ন এই ব্যক্তিগুলো কারাবাসসদৃশ স্কুলের নিয়মগুলোকে তাই কখনই মেনে নিতে পারেন না। আর এজন্যই তারা সবসময়ই ছক ভাঙার চেষ্টায় নিয়োজিত থাকেন।
২. তারা বইয়ের পোকা নন:---- আলবার্ট আইনস্টাইন বলেছেন, ‘যারা মাত্রাতিরিক্ত বই পড়েন এবং নিজের মস্তিষ্ককে কম কাজে লাগান তাদের চিন্তা-ভাবনার অভ্যাসে মূলত অলসতা চলে আসে।’ কিছু মানুষ আছে যারা পরীক্ষা প্রস্তুতিতে বই ছাড়া কিছুই বোঝেন না। তারা পাঠ্য-পুস্তকেই সবসময় মাথা ডুবিয়ে রাখেন। এরা আসলে বাস্তব জগৎ থেকে অনেকটা দূরে। কিন্তু সফল ব্যক্তিরা মূলত পড়াশোনা এবং জ্ঞান আহরণের মাঝে পার্থক্য বোঝেন। আর সেই জ্ঞান দিয়ে কী করে পরের উপকার করা যায় তা বের করার চেষ্টা করেন। তারা জানেন যে, বই পড়ে যেটুকু জানা যাবে বাস্তবিক অনুশীলনে তার চেয়ে অধিক গুণ বেশি জানা যাবে। আর এ কারণেই তারা একেবারেই বইয়ের ভিতরে নিজেকে বেঁধে রাখেন না বরং প্রকৃতির উন্মুক্ত দ্বারেও জ্ঞান আহরণের জন্য নিজেকে পরিচালনা করেন।
৩. তারা আত্ম-শিক্ষণে বিশ্বাসী:----- আমেরিকার উদ্যোক্তা, লেখক এবং মেটিভেশনাল স্পিকার জিম রোহান বলেন, ‘প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা হয়ত তোমাকে জীবিকা দিবে কিন্তু আত্ম-শিক্ষা তোমাকে একটি ভাগ্য দিবে।’ অনেকেই কেন স্কুলকে পরম শিক্ষার স্থান মনে করছেন না? কারণ, তারা এর চেয়ে আত্ম-শিক্ষণ পদ্ধতিকে বেশি গুরুত্ব দেন। সফল ব্যক্তিরা মনে করেন, স্কুলের নির্দিষ্ট সিলেবাস কোনো বিষয়ের নির্দিষ্ট অংশই শেখায় কিন্তু আত্ম-শিক্ষণের কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সিলেবাস নেই। তাই তারা ইচ্ছামতো শিখতে পারেন, জানতে পারেন। ফলে একপর্যায়ে আত্মশিক্ষা-ই তাদের কাছে প্রিয় শিক্ষকে পরিণত হয়।
৪. তারা কারও অধীনে থাকতে পছন্দ করেন না:---- স্কুলজীবনটা বলতে গেলে এক ধরনের অধীনতা। ‘জ্বি স্যার’, ‘না স্যার’ এই করতেই যায়। সফল ব্যক্তিরা এই অধীনতা পছন্দ করেন না। জিম রোহান বলেন, ‘পরামর্শ নাও কিন্তু আদেশ না।’ স্কুলের কিছু নিয়ম-কানুন আছে। পাশাপাশি পড়াশোনা করার এক ধরনের আদেশও দেয়া হয়ে থাকে যা সফল ব্যক্তিরা একেবারেই পছন্দ করেন না। আর এ কারণেই তারা স্কুলে ভালো ছাত্রের অবস্থানে যেতে পারেন না।
৫. তারা গ্রেড সিস্টেমে নিজেদের যোগ্যতা পরিমাপ করেন না:---- মার্কিন সিনেটর চাক গ্র্যাসলে বলেন, ‘স্কুলের ভালো গ্রেড দিয়েই বোঝা যায় না যে একটা শিশু কতটা প্রতিভাসম্পন্ন এবং মেধাবী, কিন্তু বিশ্বের শিক্ষায় এটাই ভিন্ন এক উপায়।’ যারা নিয়মের ভিন্নতা চান এবং বিশ্বের বুকে তাদের নাম রেখে যেতে চান তারা বহুল প্রচলিত এই গ্রেড সিস্টেমে কখনই বিশ্বাসী হন না। তারা কখনই এই মানদন্ডে নিজের যোগ্যতাকে যাচাই করেন না। তারা পড়াশোনা করেন জানার জন্য, ক্লাসের সর্বোচ্চ নম্বরধারী ছাত্র হওয়ার জন্য নয়। আর এ কারণেই হয়ত তারা ক্লাসের ভালো ছাত্রটি হয়ে উঠতে পারেন না।
৬. সফলতাকে তারা ভিন্নভাবে পরিমাপ করেন:--- মাইক্রেসফটের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা বিল গেটস বলেন, ‘আমি স্কুলের পরীক্ষায় কিছু বিষয়ে অকৃতকার্য হয়েছিলাম এবং আমার এক বন্ধু সব বিষয়েই কৃতকার্য হয়েছিল। এখন আমার সেই বন্ধুটি মাইক্রোসফটের একজন প্রকৌশলী এবং আমি মাইক্রোসফটের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা।’ একজন ব্যক্তির কোনটা থাকাটা বেশি জরুরি- একটা ভালো রেজাল্ট, একটা ভালো ডিগ্রি, একটা ভালো চাকরি? এমন অসংখ্য ডিগ্রিধারী ও ভালো রেজাল্ট করা ছাত্র-ছাত্রী রয়েছে যাদের আমরা চিনিও না। কিন্তু যারা জীবনে সফল হয়েছেন এবং পৃথিবীর জন্য ভালো কিছু করে গেছেন তাদের বেশিরভাগেরই প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক রেজাল্ট ভালো ছিল না। তাদের কাছে সফলতা হলো আবেগীয় বুদ্ধিমত্তা, জ্ঞান, সংকল্প এবং জ্ঞানালোকের মিশ্রণ। আর এ কারণেই তারা স্কুলের পরীক্ষার খাতায় হয়ত সফল হতে পারেননি।
৭. তারা রুটিন অনুসরণ করতে পছন্দ করেন না:---- সফল ব্যক্তিরা জীবনে কোনো ধরনের রুটিন-ই মানতে চান না বা পছন্দ করেন না। তারা মনে করেন, সারাদিন ক্লাসে বসে থেকে একঘেঁয়ে লেকচার শোনার চেয়ে বাস্তব জীবনের সতেজ অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জন করা বেশি আনন্দদায়ক। আর এই কারণেই তারা ক্লাসে মনোযোগী হন না।
৮. লক্ষ্য পূরণের অনুভূতি তাদের জীবনে তাড়াতাড়ি আসে:---- আমেরিকার বিখ্যাত রেডিও ব্যক্তিত্ব, লেখক, বক্তা আর্ল নাইটিঙ্গেল বলেন, ‘যাদের লক্ষ্য আছে তারাই জীবনে সফল হয় কারণ জানে যে তারা কোথায় যাচ্ছে।’ বলা হয় যে, সফল ব্যক্তিরা জন্ম থেকে মেধাবী হয়ে থাকেন যারা শুধু জীবনে চলার পথে তাদের দক্ষতাগুলো ঝালাই করে সামনে এগিয়ে যান। তারা জানেন যে তাদের জীবনের লক্ষ্য কী, তারা কী করতে চান? এই ব্যক্তিগুলো লক্ষ্য পূরণের অনুভূতিটা আগেই পেয়ে যান। আর যখনই জেনে ফেলেন যে তিনি কী করতে চান এবং কী হতে চান তখন তার স্কুলের একেঘেঁয়েমি পড়াশোনার প্রতি মনোযোগ উঠে যায়। ফলে স্কুলের পরীক্ষার ফলাফলে ভালো করেন না।
৯. তারা ঝুঁকি গ্রহণকারী:---- ভারতের বিখ্যাত ব্যবসায় পুঁজিপতি, বিনিয়োগকারী এবং বিশ্বপ্রেমিক আজিম প্রেমজি বলেন, ‘যদি তোমার লক্ষ্য দেখে কেউ না হাসে তাহলে বুঝবে তোমার লক্ষ্য অনেক অনেক ছোট।’ সফল ব্যক্তিদের অভিধানে ‘নিরাপদ কাজ’ এই শব্দটি নেই। তারা কাজের ক্ষেত্রে সাহসী এবং একই সাথে আত্ম-ত্যাগী হয়ে থাকেন। তারা ঝুঁকি গ্রহণ করতে জানেন। জানেন, সেবাভিত্তিক যেকোনো উদ্যোগে বিভিন্ন ঝুঁকি আসতে পারে এবং তা প্রতিহত করার সাহসও রাখেন। সফল ব্যক্তিদের এই দুঃসাহস তাদের সব ধরনের ভয় কাটিয়ে দেয়, ফলতঃ তারা বিশ্বকে জয় করেন। কিন্তু দুর্ভাগ্যবশতঃ স্কুলের গণ্ডিটাকে জয় করতে পারেন না।
১০. তারা স্বপ্নবাজ হয়ে থাকেন দিবাস্বপ্ন! এটা আসলে ততটা খারাপ না যতটা আমরা আমাদের শিক্ষকদের কাছ থেকে শুনে থাকি। বরং সেই স্বপ্নই আমাদের জন্য ক্ষতিকর যা আমাদেরকে জগৎ থেকে সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা করে ফেলে। সফল ব্যক্তিরা স্বপ্নবাজ হয়ে থাকেন। তারা স্বপ্ন দেখতে ভালোবাসেন। আবার সেই স্বপ্নকে বাস্তবেও পূরণ করেন। তারা স্বার্থহীন, মানুষের প্রয়োজনে লাগে এমন স্বপ্ন দেখতেই ভালোবাসেন। আর এই স্বপ্নের পিছনে ছুটতে ছুটতে স্কুলের নিয়মগুলো মানতে ভুলে যান। ফলে স্কুলের সেরা ছাত্রটি হতে পারেন না।
